Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor Prevention Education Resources
SNP is committed to saving lives by educating young people and families about the opioid crisis particularly lethal fentanyl. Members of SNP’s Educational Outreach Committee offer workshops designed to raise awareness among teens, college students, parents, teachers, and school staff. SNP partners with the New York City Department of Education (DOE), DEA New York Division, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the NYPD, and not-for-profits.
Designated attorneys offer presentations on the dangers of fentanyl: what it is, how it gets to New York City, and why teenagers are dying without even knowing they are taking it. SNP staff members explain the types of mixtures found in the city’s highly unpredictable drug market, including pills containing fentanyl. Discussions include the role of social media in teen overdose deaths and how teens can stay safe. Stories from grieving families and recent headlines are included in SNP’s workshop materials to drive home the real risks associated with drug use today. A Spanish-speaking staff member is available to present workshops in Spanish.
